Our Story

The Mission

The mission of Shelby Crossings has been the same since it’s beginning. Our message does not change although our methods do. Our mission statement describes our heart: We are a diverse community of believers committed to developing passionate followers of Christ to impact the world.

A Diverse Community of Believers

We are a community that has abandoned the idea that life can be lived in isolation. We are uniquely different but we all have a relationship with the unique Son of God, Jesus Christ, who unites us. We are a family with members of all races, ages and backgrounds.

Developing Passionate Followers of Christ

While we are a faith family, we are always interested in new family members who would be a part of a community that is involved in making disciples of Jesus Christ. We seek to be a church that lets others in our lives to teach and encourage one another to live in a manner worthy of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

To Impact the World

The gospel of Jesus Christ is central to all of life in the church, in the home, in the community and in the world. This is what impacts the world. We are committed to sharing and living out the gospel with people and cultures that surround us. We share our lives with honesty, humility, urgency, love and joy.

Core Values

Every Member a Minister

God has called us to go and make disciples. He even gave us spiritual gifts to empower us for this mission. We value the development of leaders through relational discipleship that result in serving our community, church and world. (Ephesians 2:10; Matthew 28:16-20)

People Matter to God

People Matter to God and therefore, matter to us far more than institutions and programs. We do not desire to stay in a “holy huddle” but seek to show the community that all people are important to us. We place a high value on ministries transforming people rather than “using” people to transform ministries. (Genesis 1:26-27; 1 John 4:19).

What We Do, We Do Together

As a reflection of our Creator who exists in community as Father, Son and Spirit, we live in community with one another. We place high value on living deeply with one another, carrying each other’s burdens, sharing possessions, and sacrificially loving one another. We hope to be a church of unity with diversity as people interact with others that are perhaps a little unlike themselves. (Acts 2:42-47; John 17:20-23)

Everything Belongs to God

All of our time, resources and talent belongs to God. Our time, our house, our kids, our bank accounts are in His hands. We are called to be stewards over what God has given us. We give because we want to be obedient to God, to impact the lives of others and express our gratitude to God above, the only sure and stable One in this universe. (Psalms 24:1; Colossians 1:16)

God is Honored in Excellence

God is honored in excellence in all things done out of loving obedience to Him. God is seeking His glory. We value holy living motivated by a desire to glorify God. “Whatever we do, whether in word and in deed, we do it all to the glory and honor of God.” (1 Corinthians 14:12; Colossians 3:17).
